Bowls Cambridgeshire
Secretary Report 2026
Dear Members,
As this is my first report for a Bowls Cambridgeshire AGM, I must start by thanking you all for your patience, especially the Executive who have been a great help and fountain of knowledge.
We started the season with 3 friendly games (booked) each for the Men and the Ladies. Unfortunately, we had to cancel all the 3 friendly games for the men due to lack of interest. However, we did fulfil the ladies 3 friendly games thanks to Sylvia, Val (and a lot of phone calls).
The Eastern Counties also fulfilled all their games I am told they were all played in a good friendly spirit although unsuccessful but early days and I am sure that this will improve.
The Middleton Cup team were also unsuccessful and unfortunately struggled to get team together. We hope that this will change in the future.
The Johns Trophy was played in excellent spirit all the way through to the quarter final where we unfortunately, stumbled and lost by a mere 2 shots.
The Walker Cup and The Balcomb played in a different format this season which we competed for over 2 days. Neither team made it through however, the format for 2026 has been changed so that it is played over just I day and it is felt it will be better.
Our website has been kept well up to date this year with a big rise in followers, and I am happy to say that this should continue in the future, keeping you all well informed as to what is going on and when. There are some good pictures on there of our players at the National finals and also of the Domestic finals.
Membership
We had 26 affiliated clubs this year and we are hoping that we will have at least 1 more club for next season.
Those clubs that took part in the Bowls England Big Bowls Weekend please take note that Bowls England will not be running it for the 2026 season.
I would personally like to thank the Executive committee for their hard work in running our County through this season. Between them all they have kept everything running smoothly helping where they can attend County finals, National finals, and Domestic finals where they could as well as all Bowls England meetings and County Meetings as well as Executive Meetings.
Thanks must go to Philip Harper -Scott for all the sorting out that he must do to make the competitions run smoothly
and, to the competition recorders a thankless task!
We would like to say a big thank you to Littleport B.C and all their helpers who hosted the Domestic Finals this year it was a very good weekend of bowls.
Competitors
A very well done to all the competitors that played there part in playing in all National, County, and Club competitions and, to all the competitors that made it through to the National Finals huge congratulations.
A very special to the Amy Rose team (The East Anglian's) made up from Cambridgeshire, Norfolk, and Huntingdon together with their Team Manager from Cambridgeshire who made it to the all England Final.
A big thank you for a busy but very enjoyable first year
